Filming at Chatham
In July 2015, we were approached by a film company who produce ‘Call the Midwife’ for BBC Television to allow them to use the frontage of our Library and Archive at the Historic Dockyard in Chatham, Kent, to convert it into a shop for one of the episodes. Filming took place on the 10th July 2015. ‘Haywards & Co’ factory duly appeared in episode 4 of the new series. Pictures were taken by Alan Watt during filming.
On the 31st August 2016, filming commenced using the frontage of our Library and Archive for the CBBC children’s drama series called HETTY FEATHER based on books by the popular children’s author Jacqueline Wilson. Our building represents a workhouse and Hetty is looking for someone. The set was largely built the day before and completed on the day of the shoot. In the afternoon the actual filming consisted of one scene shot from two angles. With rehearsals and a couple of live takes, it took less than two hours for less than 30 seconds of the story. Pictures were taken by Roy Metcalfe during filming.
