It is with great sadness that the Dorset Branch has to advise that Marion Browning, their long standing and much admired secretary passed away on Monday 23rd September. Marion was the branch secretary of the Dorset Branch for over twenty years until having to relinquish her post in May due to ill health. Marion was one of the original members of the WSS Dorset Branch when it was founded in 1987. Her versatility, dedication, enthusiasm and welcoming manner made the Dorset Branch a friendly and highly enjoyable venue for the membership and the quality of speakers and their talks, which she organised, were second to none. Marion had a successful career as a school teacher and in this role accompanied her pupils on educational cruises in the UGANDA. These voyages prompted her interest in maritime matters and lead her to being the author and co author on books on the UGANDA and NEVASA, published by The S.S. UGANDA Trust. The contribution that Marion made to the Dorset WSS went way beyond the call of duty and she will be sorely missed.
