Merchant Ship Meeting 2015

MERCHANT SHIP MEETING

The most recent of the biennial Merchant Ship Meetings took place on Saturday 7th November 2015 at the Liverpool Seafarers’ Centre, Liverpool L22 1RQ brilliantly organised by the Merseyside Branch, whose members also did the catering. Proceedings began, as usual, with the answers to a fiendishly difficult quiz, sent out in advance to all delegates. Unprecedentedly, three of these achieved full marks, each getting a modest prize. The programme for this well-attended meeting is set out below

10.30. Welcome Roy Fenton
Answers to pre-meeting quiz Malcolm Cooper
11.15 Aspects of shipbreaking by Ian Buxton
12.00 Video: The Smit Tak salvage operation on CMA Djakarta
13.00 Lunch break
14.00 General average and CMA Djakarta (1990) by Gordon Line
14.30 The post-war revolution in shipping by Peter Davies
15.15 Tea break
15.30 Photographs from the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board archives by Philip Parker
16.15 Marconi’s Elettra: a historically significant yacht by Willie Williamson
17.00 Close.

Once again it was a considerable success, due largely to the work and enthusiasm of John Williams, Dave Crolley and their colleagues and friends in the Merseyside Branch.
